I waited over a year to take the final clinical exam for my nursing degree (CPNE). Once it was scheduled, it was cancelled due to COVID concerns.

During my wait to re-schedule the school lost it's ACNE accreditation. So, A lot of us are screwed on getting licensed in our home state even when we get the miserable degree because we didn't graduate from an ACNE accredited program. You can't win with this school.

Others, like us...look somewhere else, make a change in your schedule, do whatever you have to do to attend a REAL nursing school. It's the only way you'll have a chance at being taken seriously in the real world.

Very good advice. Sorry for your situation.

Certainly you know enough about the subject to place yourself in an accredited program ; you will do well which ought to make up for some of the time and money spent in class before this. Best luck to you ; nurses are fine folk - I married one !

Waited over a year to do my cpne, traveled out of state. Failed as did everyone else that weekend.

Then they changed the requirements, version, of the test before I could retake and still had to wait over a year to retake. Ended up withdrawing four Excelsior as it was one excuse after another.

Spent over $12,000 and no RN degree! Run fast and don't make my same mistake!

Horrible

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

L So many better options out there. This college has become the nightmare that never ends.

20 month wait for the CPNE. My state requires clinical hours. I have to wait 6 months before I have an opportunity to finish those hours. College refuses to allow me to utilizes the wait time to do the ATI.

When said and done this has taken me almost 8 years. Now I see why states refuse to accept graduates from this college to be employed outside of government jobs. Low pass rate is because the huge gap between classes and applying the information. Especially if you are not in a hospital setting.

So 2 1/2 years since I finished classes to begin clinical hours. Then it will be 3 or more years from my last class when i will the the NCLEX.

It’s like starting over. Save your money and time.

Attended school 8 years ago. Took training class for CPNE in Atlanta, Ga.

Passed CPNE 1st attempt. Reviewed for NCLEX with Kaplan.

Made all of the money I spent in the first 6 months. Great experience for me.

DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY ON THIS SCHOOL!!!

Excelsior college is a SCAM!!! Everything you read about this horrible school is TRUE!!

They make you wait over a year to take the CPNE (which costs $2500 just to take the test) and then make it impossible to pass it. They lie about their pass rate, which is less than 40%.

I would NEVER have spent time OR money on a school that had a pass rate that low!!! I don't have A SINGLE positive thing to say about this institute!!!

Horrible experience

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

The CPNE sucked. It took me 3 tries.

CPNE was graded in a very arbitrary manner. HATE this school. Joined the class action lawsuit about the CPNE and got $200. Wouldn’t recommend excelsior to my worst enemy.

BTW, I aced all the written exams, already had a BS degree from a REAL school, (in Health Promotion—BYU) and passed NCLEX-RN on first try. So it wasn’t a matter of not knowing the material, just the arbitrary grade of “pass/fail” for the CPNE. I hope excelsior gets sued again. Horrible, unethical, scam ‘school’.

Don’t waste your money. Go ANYWHERE else.

I’m honestly surprised Excelsior is still open. Horrible experience, horrible staff.

Go elsewhere

Made the mistake of actually going to this school. I graduated from the lower classes and was somewhat disappointed in the poor technical services and the less serviceable library ( very foreign prone articles, very little American based articles).

Since that time, the level of service for both has decreased. Tech dept refused to fix the problem with my student account, the library has gone overboard on being cheap and has mostly eliminated anyone the is an native writer. School also looks for the cheapest teachers and usually ends up with ones that have no idea of what they are doing or know the subject. In fact, the school hired an instructor who lied about their schooling, their work history, and their awards.

Instructor spent most of the class accusing everyone of plagiarism. School failed to verify the instructor, and did nothing to fix the problem.

Really wish I had gone to a different school. I am not a nursing student.

Lack of clinical for students

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

No clinical for students and intimidation than teaching. when on what so call clinical the teachers are training to fail you than see you success.

School are more likely to fail you than teaching after they fail you the person uncharged will tell to apply again and come back to retest than you will be paying thee same amount of money and wait another 9 to 11 months to retest when a site is available. you need to spend all that money for hotel air fare and take time from your work and make arrangement for your family thinking that it will finally pay offs instead you go home and just flush all that money to excelsior. I just got rip off from a school that been getting your hard working money.

the just crush your dream. worse school ever..

Miss led by Excelsior College Nursing Program

I feel completely betrayed and miss led by Excelsior College and their nursing program. I have worked so hard to become a registered nurse only to get to the point where I have been jerked around three different times as to when I can take my CPNE.

I paid $2300 and continued to get jerked around. With that being said and with all the research that I have done I pulled out and got my $2300 back. But the time that has been wasted and the money that I have spent on classes to become a registered nurse through Excelsior CollegeI will never get back. I can’t even begin to tell you how misled and disappointed I have been in this organization.

I would never recommend this organization to a potential nursing student!

I want compensation for my time in for the money I spent simply to be missed lead by a money hungry organization! Angelakuenster@***.com

Excelsior scam

I have been enrolled in Excelsior for 4 years. I have been a LPN for years , this program is the most dehumanizing , morally corrupt unethical outfit out there.

The program is done online, nothing in the courses they force you to take and pay for prepares you for the CPNE. The CPNE is hit or miss, depending on the examiner's mood , roll of the dice knowledge has nothing to do with it. Sad very sad. The subjective test depends on if the examiner is in a good mood , did she have enough sleep the night before ?

no kidding thats what it comes down to. Excelsior needs to be accountable for the many many lives they have destroyed .

Thieves/con artists

Full time employed, father trying to make use of benefits. Unenrolled after six days, after being hurried into late enrollment, and then charged for 50% of both classes because I was wasn’t unenrolled before the three day limit.

This would have meant unenrolling before receiving my text books? Corrupt, the only five star reviews are from the damned PR department.

Scam! Scam! Scam!

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

My wife signed up for this program. They like to space the requirements so they can get another year of tuition from you.

She signed up for a study program. Aced EVERY test she took. We went to Shippensburg for her practical weekend. She purchased every study aid available.

Practiced every station over and over for months. Our neighbor is a BSN that teaches nursing in Philadelphia PA. She watched her, made sure she followed every step. My wife had these down to perfection.

She passed every station for the practical exam. Then the Care Plans. That Saturday one of the evaluators failed her for not having the word “and”. The evaluator said she should have wrote “or”.

Sunday rolls around and she fails for writing “or”. This one tells her she should have written “and/or”.

For a low cost of another few grand she can retest in a 6 months. Total scam.

Excelsior College Cpne is either a scam or completely a waste - they should not be accredited.

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

The Clinical Evaluators at St Lukes Hospital in Utica, NY failed my wife. I say failed because they gave her a "fail", but more so because they failed her on inconsequential details.

She has worked in health care for over 20 years, was an EMT for 14 years and saved some lives. She worked in a trauma center. She's been a practicing LPN for 8 years. The nonsense b.s.

they came up with to fail her over is insane. This makes no sense beyond milking desperate students for all they money they can. The same thing happened on her first attempt at Albany Medical Center. There she was failed early in the weekend for a detail that she later told that she shouldn't really have been failed for because the practice is not universal.

They are at the least incompetent, and at most scam artists.

At Excelsior College, your fate is not in your own hands no matter how hard you work or how good of a nurse you are. You will pass when they have decided that they have enough of your money.

Hopefully those who are responsible can meet and resolve the matter at hand. The only reason this original post was created was to share my experience and help my fellow degree seeking colleague(s) to be aware of the potential pitfalls ahead.

Original review Jun 01, 2017

Everything leading up to CPNE was decent minus the hefty fees for each theory exam....flexible and convenient for the most part. CPNE was a joke.

Failing a LPN for pulse count I found hilarious because a 3rd grader couldve cone up with better reason! Such a huge disappointment and a disgrace to my profession: Nursing.
